Air Jordan IV – Red/White Sample

It certainly is taking quite a while for another adult colorway of the Air Jordan IV to release, because the upcoming Air Jordan IV ‘Cavs’, set to drop on May 12th, would be the first Air Jordan IV since mid-February’s White/Cement release. Perhaps that elongated gap between Retro IVs is because this Red/White sample was scrapped; as stated in the size-tag (the only true piece of information we can use to date a sneaker), this Red/White sample with a unique matte Foamposite-like upper (as described by the owner) was destined for a Spring 2012 release (Jan-Mar), but it appears that Jordan Brand is following last year’s formula of Retro drops by sticking to OGs and one new concept (the aforementioned ‘Cavs’). With these popping up as well as Gentry’s White/Red Laser IV, perhaps 2012 was intended to be a crazier year for Retro releases, but given the current state of sneaker mania and Nike’s complete upheaval of its sneaker release process, maybe it’s better that these stayed inside the factory doors. Nike Air Flight One – Black – White

A little history for ya: this colorway of the Nike Air Flight One was one of the sneaker models worn by Penny Hardaway during his first two seasons of his NBA career before he embarked upon the Nike Air Penny signature line, but some may associate this Air Flight One (this exact colorway, to be more precise) to Michael Jordan. Why? During a game in the Second Round of the 1995 NBA Playoffs, Michael Jordan, who rocked the Air Jordan XI ‘Concord’, was forced by the NBA brass to switch to an all-black shoe in accordance with league uniform rules. He didn’t have a pair of the Space Jams handy, so for one game, he had no choice but to borrow a pair from Penny’s closet and wear the Nike Air Flight One in the same colorway (we have a picture for you below).

Of course, one of Michael’s trademark characteristics is is homicidal competitiveness, so he went as far as chopping off the ’1′ heel-tab of the borrowed pair. With the Air Flight One returning earlier this year, that story of MJ rocking the Flight One rushed back into our memories, and we’ll be able to re-live them this October as they are slated for a drop. Nike LeBron 9 P.S. Elite ‘Varsity Maize’ – New Images

Up to this point the Nike LeBron 9 P.S. Elite ‘Varsity Maize’ has been sort of the odd man out as far as colorways go for the Nike LeBron 9 Elite, with no apparent connection along the same story line of the regal gold versions and the revisit to the ‘South Beach’ theme. Our recent exclusive sit down with Nike Basketball designers Jason Petrie and Leo Chang did help to shed some light on the black and yellow pairing however, intended as a re-imagining of the traditional Miami Heat color combos. This year, we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the original Dream Team, but if it weren’t for the April 1989 decision to allow professional players into the Olympics, none of our nostalgia would have a base of reference. Air Jordan IV – White – Fire Red – Black

In 2006, Jordan Brand pair a worthy and impressive tribute to Spike Lee by giving him his own signature sneaker called the Jordan Spiz’ike – a hybrid of all the Air Jordans the Spike’s alter ego of Mars Blackmon chipped in for during their original debuts. We also remember the ‘Mar’s Jordan IV, which featured the OG White/Red/Black colorway with the Mars Blackmon logo on the heel, but Jordan Brand, for this year’s 23rd Anniversary, decided to bring it back sans-Mars (although the spirit of Blackmon will never be forgotten). Today we bring you a first detailed look at this upcoming release (currently slated for August), which should be the perfect OG-Air Jordan hit of the summer – much like last year’s True Blue III was.
